More About Alice Shi

Tell us the story of why you became a massage therapist.

“I became a massage therapist because I’ve always been drawn to helping people feel better,” says Alice, “not just physically, but emotionally as well.

“Growing up, I saw how stress, pain, and tension could affect daily life, and I wanted to find ways to make a real difference. My journey started with learning traditional Chinese reflexology and massage in China. Through my studies and hands-on experience, I discovered how powerful touch and holistic care can be in relieving pain, stiffness, and stress.

“Every time I see a client leave feeling lighter, more relaxed, and more balanced, it reminds me why I chose this path—it’s about improving lives in a practical, human, and deeply rewarding way.”

What do you like best about working at River East Physiotherapy?

“What I enjoy most about working at River East Physiotherapy is the opportunity to help clients improve their well-being in a supportive, caring environment.

“I appreciate being part of a team that values both professional excellence and compassionate care, where I can combine my skills in massage, and knowledge of acupuncture to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day.”

What are some compliments you’ve received from patients?

“Many of my clients have said my massage is the best they’ve ever received.

“Some even relax so deeply that they fall asleep or start snoring during the session, which I consider one of the highest compliments.”

What’s something you’re proud of?

“I’m proud of my independence and the strong foundation my family gave me. Since I was 15 and attending boarding school, I learned to take responsibility for myself and make my own decisions.

“My parents always supported me and encouraged me to follow my passions, which helped me stay motivated and dedicated to pursuing the things I truly want to do.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

“In my spare time, I enjoy reading history and philosophy books, practicing handwriting, and cooking traditional meals—which can take 2–3 hours.

“I also like going for walks to relax and clear my mind. And during the summer, I often spend entire days tending to my yard, enjoying the outdoors while staying active and connected to nature.”

What’s something that few people know about you?

“Few people know that I'm also a teacher - I teach physiology. I enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others learn, which gives me a different perspective on communication, patience, and understanding—skills that I also bring to my work as a massage therapist.”

Someone knows you well would describe you as…

“A fun person”

What do you love about Winnipeg?

“I love Winnipeg, especially North Kildonan, for its peace, nature, and friendly community. When my mom first moved here from China as a new immigrant, people on the streets would give her a warm ‘hi,’ which made her feel welcomed and supported. That kindness and sense of community are what make this area truly special.”
